The McDowell House has many school tours
and is an excellent educational opportunity for students. Students
take personally guided tours through the house and apothecary shop
in groups of about 12. They learn about life and medicine in the
early 19th century and see artifacts from the period.
McDowell House is conveniently located
across from Constitution Square, a state historic site with access
to picnic table and restrooms. Please call ahead (859) 239-7089 if
you plan on stopping there.
Rates are $1 for children 5-12 and $2.00 for students 13-20.
Please contact us at (859) 236-2804 for
more information or to set up a tour. We are also available by
e-mail at
mcdhse@kih.net.
McDowell House is partially handicap
accessible to guests in wheelchairs. There are ramps to the first
floor of the house and gift shop. The 2nd floor and the apothecary
shop are viewable by video. A closed captioned video is available
for the hearing impaired.

receives one free with a school tour. Please feel free to make
copies for use in your classroom. This book was made possible by a
