Capital Campaign

The mission of the McDowell House and Apothecary Shop is to interpret the life of Dr. Ephraim McDowell by preserving and exhibiting his home, apothecary shop, and gardens.

Thank you for your interest in McDowell House.

Funding to operate and preserve McDowell House Apothecary and Gardens comes from individuals, medical societies and income from tours and the Gift Shop. McDowell House does not currently receive any state or federal funding.

Unfortunately, current levels of donations are not sufficient to sustain operating expenses. As a result, the McDowell House and Apothecary Shop has embarked on an 18-month, $1.7 million capital campaign to secure an endowment. Funds are being raised for much-needed repairs and restoration projects.

Funds raised will:

  • Correct moisture problems
  • Improve security
  • Install proper museum lighting
  • Restore and insure artifacts
  • Expand exhibits
  • Perform routine maintenance
  • Provide a summer history camp, a senior program and an adult lecture series
  • Create a speaker's bureau
  • Start a volunteer training program
  • Create an internship program
  • Increase accessibility for all visitors

We're asking for your help in preserving this rare piece of history for future generations. Tax-deductible donations to McDowell House may be sent to: John Rodes, McDowell House Board of Managers, McDowell House and Apothecary Shop, 125 South Second Street, Danville, Kentucky, 40422-1801. For more information about matching gifts, wire transfers, bequests or to make a donation by credit card, please call us at (859) 236-2804. Thank you.
